Educational awareness programs include: specially designed trips to take people - especially school children - out on the ocean to give them a first-hand lesson on what the ocean has to offer and how we need to protect it, and introducing young people to the wonders of the ocean through scuba instruction (at reduced rates where warranted),
In addition, NOS takes several trips each year for SCUBA divers who want to dive with our scientific advisors and other divers who believe in protection of the environment and learn more about marine life in general.
In addition to scuba diving, join us in spirit every time you are on the water - sailing, cruising, paddling, kayaking --- pick up that trash you see floating in the water. If you don't pick it out of the water, chances are high it could be fatally ingested by birds, dolphins, or others in the marine environment. Save a life! In Newport Bay, we go out on a regular basis in outrigger canoes to collect ocean trash.
